I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down and when I did I couldn't get the characters out of my head. The story starts in WWI and then continues in present time, I was so invested in the WWI aspect of the story that when it changed to present I put the book down for a few hours a little weary about the change. When I picked it back up again I fell right back in.

A beautiful story that takes place in modern day London and 1917 France when it was occupied by Germany during World War I, with a little WWII thrown in as well. Some of the transitions can be jarring and there are some holes in the story (as well as some convenient tidiness) if you look hard enough, but overall it's engaging, thought-provoking with well-drawn characters, especially the pieces that took place in France.

This was a story of wars and stolen art.

really enjoyed this novel. Loved reading about the heartbreaking historic conditions of occupied France during WWI and Sophie's story, and enjoyed the modern "art recovery" love-story of the current owner. I plan to read more by this author!

I have seen her books in my recommendations for a while now, but her cover art always turned me off. I'm so glad I looked further, because I was able to experience this gem of a book! Chose it for my book club, and I'm looking forward to discussing it.

The story went back and forth between past and present but it wasn't confusing to follow. It was a great read!

I absolutely loved this story! I loved the investigation to find out what happened to the painting, and the details that are mirrored between the two time periods. I absolutley love Moyes' stile of writing and romance, and I can't wait to read more!

I love how she balanced the historical fiction and the romance. I also really liked how real the characters seemed & the amount of emotional context that she includes in this story. Very good, highly recommend. This is the first book of hers that I've read, and so far I am not disappointed
