- It's finally time to start One Piece!! I checked out the Netflix show because it sounded good and the next thing I know I'm obsessed with the world and characters 😂 The number of manga volumes (and anime episodes) is intimidating, but I had to check out the source material! I'm slowly making my way through all the content and I'm excited to dive deeper into this world 🩷Â
- The story starts off by introducing us to Luffy, a goofy teen whose body is made out of rubber and therefore impervious to blunt attacks! He got this ability by eating a devil fruit ... but now he's incapable of swimming. I loved the flashbacks to when he was a young boy and idolized Shanks, a kind pirate who inspired Luffy to become a different kind of pirate!
- Luffy is determined to become the king of the pirates and seeks out to gather a crew. First up is the swordsman Zoro, who's imprisoned at a marine base for defying them! Luffy isn't willing to let him rot there, as he's in need of a good fighter for his crew 👀

It was so interesting and so disturbing all at the same time. The chaos of the plot combined with the chaos of the anime art style made this manga mesmerizing to read. Luffy’s powers are creepy, and while they’re very useful, they’re rather disgusting to look at, but I guess that still made it a good spectacle if nothing else. I loved Zolo, his ultimate escape, and their toppling of Captain Morgan and his horse’s ass of a son. It was so satisfying. I really didn’t care for Luffy or Koby though, beyond their noble character motivations. I wasn’t enchanted enough to keep going with this series or to pick up the anime, but it was a wonderful standalone piece even if so. It was more graphic than I expected it to be, also, but I think I’m just not used to that yet because this was only my second manga. Basically, I would read it again, but it was off-putting enough that I wouldn’t make an effort to go on with the series, despite its incredible spectacle.
