Audio Version

Growing up and throughout life you learn and hear about everything involving Martin Luther King Jr. I enjoyed this book! It gave you a detailed story into getting to know Mrs. King as Coretta and not just the Wife of Mr. King. I knew she didn't have an easy life growing up but I was still shocked over a lot that happened through her life. There was a lot to learn about Mrs. Coretta in this book. I recommend this book to everyone of all ages. I read the physical book and then listened to the audio.

It was wonderful and very grounding to read this book. It made me realize I knew nothing really about this lady aside from being Martin's wife. Its a story for all to read. She's done so much for so many and like myself, there must be more that aren't aware.

Clean. And very informative and engaging. More need to know Coretta—not just Mrs. King.

The first half is close to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, a fascinating front row seat to the Civil Rights movement , but after the funeral it gets much more disjointed, with random events and lists of things accomplished, people who supported it, and people who undermined her. There were still interesting parts in the second half, particularly the parts about South Africa, getting MLK day to be a federal holiday, and her kids’ lives

3.5 stars. I have to be honest - I did myself an injustice and listened to this book with a certain amount of distraction. So, I may have enjoyed it more if I had given it my undivided attention. Even so, I learned so much. This focuses on Mrs. King's life and touches often on how her Christian faith influenced her work and choices through her life. It also delves into the idea of peaceful resistance as a complex and developed idea, and not just a simplistic ideal.

I enjoyed reading this book and hearing the perspective of Coretta instead of just Martin. There was a lot about her that I didn't know, so I learned new things reading this book. I'm not sure if I agree with some of her government conspiracy theories, but she did explain them in a way that made them seem plausible. Who knows what exactly happened 60 years ago? Overall, it was interesting and informative.
