really enjoyable in many ways but jarring slurs and caricatures make it unrateable for me
gurgis raises really interesting questions about salvation and forgiveness and Christianity
i think it would be amazing to see it staged, it’s worth reading and engaging with, im excited to read critics responses to it historically, and i will read it again

it's funny how 'are the flaws if the main characters a main focus of the book' is overwhelmingly at 90% bc its the truest of any ive seen. the play is fast-paced, made me cry and laugh so much it gave me emotional whiplash.
it's irreverent, more modern that i thought it would be, and more introspective too. i also liked the historical context, bc i always feel somehow that jesus books never really properly cover the historical setting of the time but this does it well. i loved the description of judas' relationship with the other the disciples, how young and foolish they were, how hopeful and reckless. they only show up for a bit but it's a high point for me.
this brought up religious issues i didn't even think i had. it also fixed some part of me i think.
