~I received an e-arc from entangled teen~
This was really interesting! It reminds me a lot of the older paranormal YA books from the early 2000's but it's written a lot better, is a bit more modern, and deals with some heavier themes.
I think including an abusive father to the plot was an interesting choice and the author did a good job of showing how the main character deals with all of this abuse. I also think it showed how strong she is despite all of these hardships she is overcoming.
The main character is also very independent and strong and it really shows.
I also really liked her and her sister's relationship. Despite not being full siblings, they still have this really strong bond.
And then the love interest was good too!
Overall this was a decent paranormal YA and I think the sequel will be interesting considering where the plot left off on.

I am utterly obsessed with this book.

Harley has had a terrible upbringing. Seriously it's pretty dark. (TW for parental abuse) She has been beaten down and made to feel like she is completely alone by the one person who should love her unconditionally.. but Harley has a little sister who gives her hope. She is doing everything in her power to break free and be able to make things safe for her sister. Everything is going according to plan until she is attacked on her 18th birthday and she realizes the world may be even darker than she thought.

I loved Harley so much. She could have used her father as an excuse to be a horrible person but instead she let it make her stronger. She thinks she is completely alone but she has a close group of people who have her back completely. I liked that she was a perfect mix of strong and vulnerable.

And then we have Draven.. who seems to fit Harley perfectly. They are both a bit dark but they still have a kindness about them. Draven was a fantastic hero for this story. I think the two characters played off each other very well and their banter was so funny!

I need the next one like right now! I guess I will have to be satisfied with trying some of the authors contemporary books.

"Just because something is damaged doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. All things have value. Don't let anyone tell you differently."

Wow. When I started reading this book, I wasn’t completely sure what I should expect, but I was hooked from the very first chapter. Molly E. Lee, you’ve got yourself a loyal reader.

The Ember of Night is a unique and spellbinding fantasy containing slow-burning romance, morally grey characters, fast-paced storyline, and an overall delightful read. I immediately fell in love with Harley and her little sister and was desperately shipping her and Draven from the moment I met him (because who doesn’t love a brooding, mysterious guy?).

Also, in no way did I see the ending coming! One of my favorite cliffhangers!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I was gifted this ARC by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.

Harley has grown up in an abusive household with the sole purpose of protecting her little sister, and making it to 18 to be able to move out and gain custody. After battling her father for so many years and having the scars to prove it, she thinks 18 is going to be the start of her new life. Little did she know, it would be, just not in the way she expected. Meeting and handsome, dark stranger and being thrown into a world where angels and demons are real, and she is key to open up hell, she has to fight for her and her sister's life.

This book started out soooo good! I couldn't put it down! But after a few demon fight scenes, I was just bored. it takes close to 50% of the book for demons to even make a distinct entrance into the book, and then the rest of it, I felt like it was just her making out with Draven (GREAT character name btw!!), but never going further, and Draven was constantly pushing her away right when it was getting good which was so freaking infuriating; and also battling demons, which sounds cool, but I don't know. I just felt bored after a while. I'm bummed because I really wanted to love this book, the beginning had me so enraptured and I wish I could pinpoint exactly why it was I felt it didn't do it for me. I can see so many people loving this story though and identifying with the main characters. Draven was a really cool character, if only he wasn't so annoying with the whole "I can't" business. I rated this a 2.75/5, rounded up to a 3.

Let me preface my review by saying: I DID like this book. Despite what my review may say. I DID enjoy reading this. I think this series has a lot of potential. However, I did have a few issues with it despite enjoying it.

Cons:
-The writing: It tries to hard to sound young adult with the writing. “Totes cliche” “omigod” “like literally” “I legit can’t right now” are just a handful of the phrase I encountered that made me cringe. I wish it was a new adult series and not YA. The writing is immature at times, but there is cursing all throughout the book. (Which I understand YA can have cursing and I’m fine with that.) It often read like a young YA at times with how the narrator phrases and reacts to things. (Ex: “totes cliche”) The content is leaning more New Adult to me, but the writing feels like it belongs in YA. For me as a reader that made it confusing at times.
-The narration: This kind of goes along with the writing for me. The story is told from first person POV, which is fine. Except how the narrator speaks is definitely not how someone 17/18 talk in real life. I don’t know many teenagers that actually say “totes cliche” regularly unless they are being sarcastic. I don’t know maybe I’m just old and not the target audience.
-Miscellaneous: some cringey moments and dialogue, could use more world building, felt like at times there were some plot holes, classic YA fantasy tropes. (Ex: bad boy with a leather jacket telling you to stay away and that he’s bad for you) [this didn’t bother me but may bother some readers]

Okay now the good stuff.
Pros:
- wonderful sister relationship. Love to see a sisterly bond.
-the angsty romance that I’m a sucker for not matter how many times it’s been done.
-demon daddies galore.
-character development
-A strong female character that recognizes her flaws and seeks to become stronger.
-wonderful pacing. I couldn’t put this book down!
-THE AUTHORS NOTE. The author gives you trigger warnings and resources if any of the content triggers you. WE NEED MORE OF THIS!

Final thoughts:
I think the series has potential. I feel kind of similar to this book as a felt to the first ACOTAR book. It was just okay. I will be interested to see if the series picks up and I enjoy it a lot more like I did with ACOTAR. Will be reading the next book to see if this is the case!

Thank you NetGalley for sending this arc for an honest review!

If your looking for the perfect ya fantasy that an entails an incredible FMC, and ML, then let me tell you, this book is what’s GIVING. Even the romance was at its peak and I could just not put this book down. It’s one of those books that took me back to when I first read acotar. I shockingly even read the prologue and enjoyed it? When normally after one sentence of the prologue I give up and head straight to chapter one. The characters were so well written and thought out that diving Thro their emotions was such an adventure. I think the most crazy yet best parts was the mental plot twists lol. Like I did NOT see those coming. Like that ending PLZ I ALMOST DIED. That second book has to be in my hands. .

Repetitive scenes with little development. The male and female lead compete on who had a shittier life repeatedly. And the ending? I’m sorry but what did I just read? Absurd
