I have a love/hate relationship with any book about the Holocaust. I love the stories but I hate that their based on factual events. In this book Elie Wiesel's life in concentrations camps during World War 2. Separated from the rest of his family Elie and his father are brought to the same camp. They face so many hardships trying to survive the weather, disease, illness, and the SS. I think in some cases repetitiveness drives a point home, that definitely is true in this book. This book uses such strong imagery, that you have to cringe at points. A really good truthful read that addresses human nature and a history some have forgotten.

I really enjoyed this book because it gave a purely human account to the holocaust. In the town I live in we have a holocaust museum and in school we learned about the war and concentration camps like everyone else but to me it had really turned to just numbers. I couldn't comprehend the murder of millions. I couldn't comprehend the violence. I couldn't understand it. This book was a tough read because it made it so real for me. It made it human and gave me understanding to what the Jewish and political prisoners that were in the concentration camps really went through. I enjoyed it and would really recommend it to everyone. The dangerous thing about history is it becomes just that, history. We must always remember it. And we must prevent this from ever ever occurring again.

A detailed account of a survivor. It hurt my heart to read. Everyone should take the time to better understand the reality of this horrific time.
