This is one of my favorite Bible studies I have done. I have watched the videos with Lifeway Online Bible studies and enjoyed the series so much. I also did it in combination with First 5 through Proverbs 31. I bought this study years ago and just had not gotten to it, so when I started this study on Numbers, I combined them.

First of all, I didn’t even remember what the book of Numbers was. It sounds tedious, but Lauren Chandler is quick to point out, that the original Hebrew meaning actually meant “In the Wilderness,” which does better describe the book. While there are two sets of numbers, which count the people as the begin the wandering in the wilderness and another when the generation has passed and a new generation will go to the Promised Land, the rest of the book is about this time in the wilderness. It is basically, a continuation of Exodus - Moses leading the people - and has many stories you might know - the spies going to the promised land, the budding of Aaron’s staff, the story of Balaam and the talking donkey and Joshua gaining leadership.

At the end, she notes “Life seems to be a series of mountaintop moments, wilderness wanderings, and mundane days in the plains.” p212

Just like the Israelites, we do go through all of these times in our lives. This study is thorough. There are a lot of days with a lot of work. (30-45 min some days), but I learned so much from it and enjoyed the back stories and way she put it together.
