For how short this was, it felt like a slow burn.

Wow. A very satisfying mystery. Loved it almost as much as Daisy Darker.

What I found most interesting was the way that the lives and secrets of three generations of women intertwine as the story unfolds. The women’s stories are ultimately more fascinating than the actual murder mystery itself (although it certainly sets things in motion and binds them all together). It was obvious who Patience really was early on but that was the last thing that I was able to predict about this story.

Literally ALL of them have a horrible secret. “Sometimes bad things happen to good people, so good people have to do bad things.“ Maybe? Edith is a villain in though, I don’t care how much she tried to redeem herself in the end.

I love reading Alex Feeney books - she is the queen of twists and this book is no different, while I wouldn’t classify this book a thriller (more of a family drama/mystery) - I would put it right behind her Rock Paper Scissors book that I classify as one of my top favorite thriller books of all time. A pattern in her books is that you don’t know who is who until about halfway through, I had to create a character web with this one and update my “clues” along the way - so that was fun.

Four stars to me means read at some point during this calendar year!

this was a SLOG.

alice feeney sacrifices plot in favour of unrealistic twists and cliche sayings. this is a book for people who don’t read and would own a “life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain” plaque.
