THE HONEYS IS INCREDIBLE! It has so much to say about gender roles and tradition, about grief and emotional distance, about nature and its connectivity. It is also surreal and terrifying and fascinating. Love a book at leaves you with more questions than answers. I've never read anything quite like it before. CANNOT recommend highly enough.

Everyone’s always talking about creepy sentient fungi but now I only want creepy sentient bees and aspen trees.

This book is real good. I could not put it down and was audibly gasping towards the end. Fantastic characters, ✨immaculate✨vibes (it’s giving Midsommar), and honestly a lot scarier than most of the adult horror I read. This story will stick with me for a long time.

I went into this book knowing nothing except that I love Ryan's writing. Jumping in cold was a joy and a step that made me feel like I was completely at the same level of understanding as Mars. In reading, I found myself worried about Mars sanity, the reality of their world at Aspen, the motivations of the Honeys. I am in awe of the intricate world created in this summer camp, a world mired in long standing traditions and patriarchal values. In a place where the motto is understood to be "we protect our own", a small corner broke free to protect the new and vulnerable. I will happily recommend this to other people looking for a supernatural mystery unlike anything I've seen before.

A perfectly serviceable surreal mystery with a solid concept, but the pacing of the novel and its climactic reveals were not done any favours by the bland and predictable characters making up the cast.

I absolutely adored this book. This is for the lovers of Midsommar, Jawbreaker, and the pastel dreaminess of your favorite spooky Sofia Coppola movies. This book is not for those who want their horror to hit quickly and intensely - it is a slow build and the truly horrific elements don’t really become present until later on in the book. But if you grow to love the characters, the setting, and the mystery of it all you should stick with it through to the end. This book is a great read on the topics of grief, family expectations, queerness, and nature while also being a fun horrific romp that I could see making for a great tv series one day as well. I look forward to reading more from this author.
