Compared to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, this is gobshite.

I think I'm about 15 years too old to appreciate the extreme silliness that is this book.

Very sci-fi, very boy-oriented, very British. Haddon does a good job of slowly building the suspense and keeping the important details concealed until the end.

Quite the bizarre book. It had an often used plot of teachers being aliens, but it was certainly funny and full of action. It had not really been edited well for young U.S. kids if that is the market they were aiming for since it had way too many obscure British words and references. That gave it a unique flavor, but it also made things difficult to understand without assistance.
