Listened on Libby. Found some parts surface level which honestly would be great if I were a new Christian still exploring. There was a lot I did think was helpful and spiritually helpful. I just didn’t find this book transformative and probably won’t remember it or give it another thought. A nice listen to at work tho!

The main takeaways from this book were relevant and actionable without being preachy or judgy. I would have like some more concrete action items/suggestions. One thing I didn’t care for was despite being a short book, it was rather wordy at times and ran away from the point the author was trying to make.

With the current situation and the forced pause of regular life/schedule for most of us, this is a timely message as we quiet our souls to take account of what has taken priority in our life. Especially now, it is important we put Jesus Over Everything. Lisa Whittle always brings the Word and I enjoy her honest transparency as she tackles each of the topics in her book. Jesus must be over all the things in our lives in order for us to truly live out the message of the Gospel.

Overall it was a good read but simply that.

There was some good things, insights and convictions but also some parts that made me cringe from Christian cliches or a disagreement theologically. (A weird halo effect happening around Abraham I didn’t love or agree with)

Took me a while to read because I moved and misplaced the book but it’s a nice, simple and easy read.

I appreciated Lisa Whittle's book, Jesus Over Everything. I've heard her speak on podcasts and have read short articles online, but this was her first book that I have read. She did a fantastic job encouraging readers to continually choose Jesus, again and again and again, over other things in our lives that try to pull us away from him. I thought the theme emphasis of this over that - like holiness over freedom and steady over hype was a powerful approach. I was encouraged to go to Jesus, and go to the Word for my hope instead of to the world. Some parts of this book felt a bit repetitive, but overall I thought this was an encouraging and challenging book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy. All opinions are my own.

This book did not live up to the hype for me. There were things I agreed with, like how making the right choice isn’t usually easy, however overall she mostly repeats the same story of the betrayal of her father loosing his Megan church and the hurt that stemmed from that. I found that the quotes I underlined the most were her quoting other people.

It’s hard to rate this book because I started it 7 months ago… but I have read over half of it in the last week or so. From what I’ve just read + recall from earlier chapters, I’d give this a 4/5⭐️

The last few chapters are my favorite, especially as Whittle explains that we can’t simply accumulate knowledge of the Bible to be followers, but instead that we are filled with the Spirit and through having a lifestyle that reflects that of Jesus, we grow closer to Him.

This is a great book for newer followers of Jesus, but it has a lot of reminders for those who have been following Jesus for a while.
