In this graphic novel by Libenson, Brianna has decided to have a bat mitzvah. At first she is doing it because her mom wanted her too, but she soon discovers she wants to do it for herself as well. However, Brianna has terrible stage freight, and is struggling to learn the Hebrew language. She doesn't feel that she will ever be ready. At the same time, the whole school has gotten the idea that Brianna is having a huge Bat Mitzvah party with celebrities and musical guest, and she doesn't know how that started. As she struggles with being ready for the Bat Mitzvah, and friendships, she starts to think none of this was worth it.

What a cute book. My daughter and I have read all of Terri Lbenson's books, and they never disappoint. And they usually have a surprise ending that is quite clever. I have to say for this one - the ending wasn't nearly as clever as past books, but cute none the same. An overall great story and great read. I recommend this one for your middle schoolers or late elementary kids.

The next book in the Emmie and Friends series and boy I was so happy I could read it, for magical reasons my library had it, in ENGLISH even! In this one we follow Brianna and go back and forth between when the Bat Mitzvah was prepared for/agreed for and the Now in which Brianna is getting actually ready for it and her feelings on that day. A very good read and I love how the Now is in full comics whereas the x months ago part is comics/text.

Review to come.

I enjoyed this so much more then [b:Invisible Emmie|31371502|Invisible Emmie|Terri Libenson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1484930073l/31371502._SX50_.jpg|49458773], the main character is so much better, it's not so problematic and I can relate to the fake friend's aspect.
I relate to Bri being brainy and struggling with public speaking and I enjoyed her growing more confident, making new friends. Emmie wasn't as prominent and I could understand her warning Bri about new friends but her still being mad made no sense, it's ok for people to make new friends.
I relate to people using you and am glad Bri found real friends.

The book felt repetitive because every chapter was Bri worrying about the Bat Mitzvah, I did enjoy learning about the process of this Jewish tradition, however.
The time skips also annoyed me
Overall, a beautifully illustrated book but with nothing too special to offer.

I really liked the religious aspect and how Brianna was exploring her faith and didn’t want to just ‘blindly follow’ and it was okay for her to question things and connect with the stories of the Torah live that for her and I loved her speech at the end! Also the whole friendship drama thing is always a good thing to find out who your real true friends are!

Would love to see a graphic novel by and about Muslims!
