Amazed at how moved I was by a story written in poem. I'm having a hard time sleeping tonight because of the emotions of this book. Definitely will stick with me for a long time. And absolutely a book my kids will be required to read.

I loved it! It was so refreshing to read an entire story in verse. It had all the feels. I look forward to recommending this to my young reader friends. There are some heavy parts, but it's beautifully done.

There are no words. None. Kwame Alexander may be a wizard with words, but I call him Da Man of story. The Crossover is stunning! As I read each word aloud, start to finish, memories of my complex childhood, my public vs private relationship with my own brother, my adoration for my parents (despite their screw-ups) all came rushing back. Not an easy feat.

Thank you, Kwame Alexander. And congratulations on a well-earned, much-deserved John Newbery Award.

Beautiful poetry novel. Main character Josh is someone anyone can relate to. His big heart, passion for sport and his family was written with grace and honesty.
I could hear the basketball bounce, I could smell the sweat, and I could feel the pain and anguish in the author's poems.

I didn’t think a book about sports could be so emotional. Great father-son relationship.

Beautiful, rhythmic, and emotional writing that deals with the growing distance between siblings. A fabulous peek into a loving, well-wrought family: I felt I knew them inside and out within the first third of the book. Gut-wrenching and humorous with high appeal to young readers.

As someone with 7 siblings I know the struggle of not getting along with them all the time. But this book really reminded me that in the end, they're my family and they're all I have left. Easy to read and understand.

This book ripped my heart out. The ending was devastating. Wow.
It's one of the most original children's fiction books I've read. Written in verse. Extremely readable. Very well done.

A cute sad story. Twins Josh and Jb love basketball, maybe because their dad is an old pro. They grow up and things change. JB falls for a girl, Josh has jealous feelings. The dad does not listen to his wife!!! The fun part of this book is that some parts are told in rhymes, it makes it flow nicely with the emotions and consequences of the characters actions.
