"I don't feel like existing right now. All I can do is breathe. That's it. Is it okay with you if I just do that for a while?"
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and Hachette Books for my gifted copy of Winter Water for review!
Martin and Alexandra are a young Swedish couple living on an island coast, and have lost their son Adam. It's presumed Adam got too close to the water and drowned though his body was never found.
Depression, grief and guilt overtake Martin, as he was preparing a picnic for he and Adam at the time of disappearance.
Former police photographer Maya is staying in the area on a house swap and takes an interest in the emotionally gutted man, and notes similarities between Adam's disappearance and others previously - specifically on the date Jan. 11.
Is something sinister at play here, or a supernatural pull to the water?
This slow burn suspense is uniquely and intriguingly written, translated from Swedish from author Susanne Jansson - this is a posthumous publication, as she lost her battle with cancer at age 47 in 2019.
For those who enjoy a seasonal feel with their thrillers, do check this one out - recommended!
Released on Dec. 7.
