Mostly Dead Things is beautiful in its fuckedupness and authentically queer. The taxidermy details and animal hard could be too intense for some. Totally not my usual kind of book, but in some ways it very much is, as indicated by the above. This book is such a strong debut.

I’m a native Floridian (born and raised.) However, I’m not as familiar with Central Florida as I am with South Florida. Regardless, I could definitely sympathize with Jessa & the rest of the characters when discussing the humidity & the temperature in general. This state is not for the weak when it comes to the heat. I also enjoyed that no one balked at Jessa’s sexuality, it was just acknowledged and accepted without scorn. The taxidermy discussions and actions didn’t make me as squeamish as I feared. My main concern was the lack of … cleanliness. The amount of times we were told items were dirty or just not washed internally made me squirm.

its not that this is a bad book. Its enjoyable and werid. Its that everyone in this book is so Horrendously Messy. That they're awful people for almost the entire book that at times You feel like a dead thing too. which is maybe the point.
