I am a big fan of short stories, I actually listened to this one audibly through the New Yorker and enjoyed the family dynamics that the author brought into play. We see the Father, who has a strained relationship with his own father, who has separated from his wife, and seems detached from his own children. We see the positive daughter, who had the attachment to the grandfather that her own father could never achieve, and then we see the son, who almost mimics the father, but the father is critical and nervous for him. Is it true that we see our faults more when they are present in other people? I think so. Especially in the form of your own flesh and blood. I believe that people can relate to a character from this story and feel empathic towards them. I also think we can feel immense sadness for them. It was a bleak story, but it was also a very realistic story. I can't wait to read (or listen) to more of Camille Bordas work. 5/5 stars!
