Gods be damned, this book absolutely broke me. The beginning felt like I was wading through murky waters, lost in a sea of information and even being mislead as a reader from certain plots until the very end. Very well written, and that ending is and ending I will not forget any time soon. Aelin’s sacrifices, her plots, so much she kept hidden from her loved ones and ourselves as readers. A truly unreliable narrator. The truths revealed in the end truly cleaves me open into devastation. Everything absolutely ties together neatly like a perfectly destructive blow to your already hopeful heart. The only thing that continues my hope is the path these characters are taking into setting things right. A beautiful read.

If I read the word ‘rutting’ one more time, I swear I’ll vomit my guts up. Also, this book could have been way shorter, except for its brutal cliffhanger ending - did I just read the equivalent of a filler episode? Also, Elide and Lorcan’s little side quest became the only thing pulling me through. Too much fighting sequences in one go, maybe? I might need a break before moving on to the next book in the series.

***Apologizing in advance for my long review that 1000% cuts to different parts of the book…due to my lack of updating as I read and also the length of time it took me to finish***

I decided to do the tandem read. I wasn’t sure how I would like it. At first, it was a little difficult, but I have enjoyed switching between the two books. The tandem read I followed is great in that each section of chapters follows one character/set of characters and then switches to another, like scenes of a movie.

Nightfall was such an interesting way to start and truly sets the tone. This book is definitely where are the action is. Between Manon, Aelin and Rowan and the separate paths they’re on for achieving same/similar goals….I don’t know where to look. I can feel the tension of their stories building and building, as well as Aelin’s individual tension.

For Manon…I was reading in disbelief that she would actually kill Asterin. I was like “Ain’t NO WAY she is about to do this, but if she’s not then what is going to happen????” To say I was shocked is an understatement. Although the tensions between her and her grandmother have been building for so long, I could not believe what I was reading, but I was extremely happy about it.

Not Miss Maas bringing back the characters from Assassins Blade in full swing! I’m so here for it. And I love that it seems like such a long time ago that I read about these characters, but when I read their names I start to remember everything.

I have to say, I did not expect the book to end this way, very bittersweet. Aelin truly loves the people she has surrounded herself with and is willing to sacrifice everything for them. I can’t believe how everything played out, truly. I am so interested to see how this series ends. Sarah has done a great job of weaving stories together, in my opinion. I still can’t get over the various stories that have now come together. Now I’m off to finish Tower of Dawn….then the last book of the series. I am not ready, but we’ll see how everything goes!!
