I am usually reticent to give a book 5 stars, as I feel a book always has flaws: too long, drags on, etc. But this book... really was perfect. Quite emotional. I don't usually cry for for books, but for this one I really almost did and had to force myself to not cry. Truly... just magnificent. A story of family, of patriarchy and misogyny, but also about acceptance of oneself. Ultimately... a story of love and courage.

Such a beautifully written book on such a harsh subject... full of sensitivity and emotion. I loved it!

A difficult read, merely because of the subject matter. It's a topic that will make your soul sick, so if you want to "enjoy" your books, this isn't that kind of book. I also had a hard time with Nila's pov. Because of the way the story was laid out, she often came off as an insensitive, entitled brat, blaming her parents for things they won't tell her (understandable) and also resenting them for things she won't tell them (ridiculous). How dare they not read her mind, right? The twists in the story are also not twists. You see them coming a mile away. All of that said, it is a good book overall.

This book was slow in the beginning , but picked up towards  the middle of the books. I think the book spent  too much time on one character  and not enough  time on the other's  development.  Overall, I learned a lot about  the topic of female infanticide.
