I don't know why they author felt it necessary to give gross, vivid sexual detail about a fucking child but this is literally just his child porn fantasy novel. Disgusting.

Someone reviewed this book saying that it was short sentences.... I think they read a completely different book because I just had 3 sentences about a child's nipples while they're fucking torturing her. It's not brief, it's glorified.

This book has left me an empty husk of a human, wondering how the hell someone can do this to another person. Because I know the story is based off a real crime.
I cry for Meg, I cry for humanity. I cry for me a little bit.
This book made me need a hug.

Based loosely on the case of Sylvia Likens, this tells the tale of the nextdoor neighbor boy David who becomes a witness to the abuse of Meg (the niece taken in by Ruth after her parents die). This was utterly heartbreaking. It's hard to know how to feel about David, who never actively participates in the abuse but also is too afraid to say anything to anyone until close to the end. This book is not for the faint of heart, as Ketchum describes much of the abuse (and the lead up to the most horrific moment---you'll know when you read it).
