Penny Reid's books bring me joy and what better than to bring me joy at this time a year than a new release involving a bodyguard, an actor, and a little bit of the holidays. Here's what I thought of this Drama King.
THE PLOT & SETTING
I loved the Hollywood world his was set in. It was a fun plot. Beth has to do bodyguard things for Cyrus after a disastrous first date. They both have to fight feelings and deal with a little bit of emotional baggage. It was a lot of fun! There were lots of laughs.

THE CHARACTERS
Beth was somehow simultaneously very put together and also a complete mess. She was everything you would want in a bodyguard, but her emotions when it came to Cyrus were all over the place. She was good at avoiding everything but her job. It was easy to understand her.

Cyrus was this easy, breezy guy who had the fame and money to back up his attitude. It was fun how quickly he became enamored with Beth. I liked seeing her through his eyes. Cyrus also had some darker stuff hidden below the surface and I appreciated how Reid portrayed his responses to it.
THE ROMANCE
This slow burn was a torturous!... in a good way! Beth and Cyrus had a lot to figure out when it came to a relationship and letting each other in. I loved the progression and how everything worked out. They were sweet together.

THE SIDE CHARACTERS
All of the female bodyguards were awesome. I did love Wren and her advice the most, though. I also loved Rex popping back in for a cameo or two and meeting our next "King". I can't wait for his book. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE NEXT YEAR??? *Sobs*

OVERALL...
I had such a great time reading this book. I couldn't decide if I wanted to speed through it because I was enjoying it so much or slow down because I wanted to savor it. That's a good dilemma to have. I am sad I'm done reading it because now I have to wait a whole year for the next book in the series.
