Had a hard time getting into this book, but the characters are interesting and how they drive the plot is believable. The story concept is the best part - love the idea of the Sundering of worlds into seven new worlds, each connected by magical gates.

The two dominant races, Sartans and Patryns, are also interesting in how they use rune magic and tattoo protective rune sigla on themselves. They hate each other and have caught up in the battle a lot of innocent people of other races, not unlike conflicting religions in our world today.

Deducted one star for having to sit through Paithan, Roland, Rega, and Aleatha again. Worst characters of the series. Their bickering is was you might expect from a group of 5 year olds and seriously wears thin on my patience. I GUESS they had to keep with the theme of their development from the second book but…uugghhhhhh. Characters that I wouldn’t mind getting killed off.

I said what I said.

Otherwise, this is another great read in the series. You can literally feel the build to the climax of the end of the whole, epic adventure. Plus, there’s a totally epic battle towards the end. All the newly introduced characters are very like-able and Rama is a total badass. Even though it low-key calls him fat.

Best book out of the Death Gate Cycle so far, a plethara of action (finally) worth reading all the rest of the book to get this far - the descriptions of battles, scenery etc are mind blowing. And the charcters that you have become attached to through out the series finally pick up the (action) slack and fight!

Une tension incroyable sur la seconde moitié qui accompagne la série vers son point culminant, je n’ai pas réussi à lâcher ce livre et je suis impatient de découvrir la fin!

Bit slow of a start, and it took far too long to actually get "into the labyrinth", but I really liked it once we got there. It was nice to meet up with Alfred again - I missed him in the last book.

We also spent a lot of time with Xar in this one and, I gotta say, with however annoying I found Haplo's sense of superiority and stubbornness in the past, Xar is just so much worse. So far Xar has yet to have much in the way of redeeming qualities, where Haplo always seemed to have a few, even at his most annoying.

Marit also bugged me, but at least she
Spoilercame around, in the end.

I mostly rated up for this one, though, because of that ending. The best ending of the series, so far, and definitely whets my appetite to jump into the next, and final, book.
