This volume was an awful lot of action with not a lot of plot. I found the fight scenes difficult to follow, simply because it was hard to identify who was doing what. The use of sound in the fight scenes was funny, but also added to the confusion. I really enjoyed the first volume and the amount of backstory it gave for Allen, but I feel like this volume decided it wasn't going to give anything away except for annoying little lines that seem really cliche ("I can't die until I find that person"... dun dun dunnnnn!). Yes, I get Kanda has a past that makes him a hardass, and yes, he has some sort of limited time to live. These lines weren't subtle.

Volume 1 reminded us that, even though these akuma are monsters, they're also victimized souls. This volume just showed them as giggling, creepy monsters. I think the only touching part of this storyline was between Lala and Guzol, and even that was a little overdone.

I'm hoping that volume 3 will pick up with the character development of volume 1.

allen's got edgedancer/windrunner vibes. probably stronger windrunner but hey. there's definitely at least Some edgedancer in him too.

Kanda seems like such a grump, but man do I love that character's design. In this volume, the relationship between Allen and Kanda starts to grow a bit, though it gets off to a rocky start. (Realistically, I'm not sure Kanda gets off to a good start with anyone.) You also get to see the first specialized Akuma in the series.

A fun and quick read, though not overly text-based. I happen to love Kanda. I like Allen, but he's a regular idealist. Kanda calls it like he sees it, and it's not what most people want to hear, but he speaks with honesty and truth.

Read a book only after sunset, check! I chose to read a manga, of course, and I'm glad to continue this series. Even though the sentiments of this manga reminded me a lot of FMA, but I'm curious to find out more about where this manga is leading to and the main character's noble heart touched me, all the time. I guess this is why shonen manga is popular. So hopefully this series will become better! 3.5 stars!

I will always love this volume - what a great arc that really shows us Allen's personality and really get to meet Kanda (both the tough exterior he puts on and his softer inside). Lala and Guzol's story is one of my favorites from the beginning of the series, tragic as it is (though really...isn't most of this series?). Well, onto the next!

I can't describe how much in love I am with D.Gray-Man. It is the one Manga tha can always make me cry and laugh in just a few pages. I am so glad I started buying the Manga issues 'cause I am dying to own the whole collection. Also, I am dying to know what happens next... Hopefully Katsura Hoshino will go back in writing soon!
