There's good, and there is bad. I felt the short stories with the Doctor really took away from Martha's story, I kept waiting for them to end and get back to her journey across the globe. Not that the stories themselves were bad, they were good but when stitched together in this manner I felt they really took away from what was pitched by the title as being the Story of Martha. I understand she was traveling telling the Doctors story but there was so much left behind or just glossed over in favour of the short stories. This could have been a time for a companion to shine but spent too much time on that Companion just retelling stories about the Doctor.

In the finale of the third season of Doctor Who 2005 Martha travels the world for one year, to help save it from the Master.

---------------------------------------
If you have not watched that episode and are extremely sensitive even to small spoilers, you don't want to read on.
---------------------------------------

This book bridges the gap in the series. It tells the story of what Martha did in that time, and how she managed to do it. It's a really interesting story - especially for me, since I'd loved to have Martha as a companion for a while longer.
Be warned - the Doctor is rather rare in this book - since it's Marthas story - so if you want to read mainly about him, this is not the book for you. But if you want to know more about what's missing in that episode, and about how Martha saved the world - then this is the perfect book for you!

I was SO excited about this book but it really disappointed me. The differant authors really didn't feel like they were telling the same story. I believe this could have been done so much better. That being said it was still interesting to read a little about what Martha's life was like in the "year that never was."
