Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine?: The Art of Making Zines and Mini Comics by Mark Todd, Esther Watson
caedocyon's review
As far as I remember, there were some good pages of inspiration to get you started if you feel stuck or uninspired. However, it's not a read-back-to-front kind of book, at least in part because some of the "essays" (for lack of a better word) are off-topic and/or annoying. Like zines themselves, there's something for most tastes, but you're not going to like all---or even the majority---of the content.

A seemingly (I don't make zines, so can't say for sure) comprehensive instruction manual on how to make zines. An introductory section on what zines are and why people make them, followed by a how-to section, and then ideas on how to distribute a finished product.
The major problem with it is the formatting. Like many zines, it is sometimes difficult to read because of the layout, typefaces, etc. But would probably be helpful for someone looking to create the first zine.

This book is awesome. It has a huge resource section with lots of templates and "how-to" guides for different aspects of zine making. Also applicable for people interested in book making jusssssst in general.

I found this pretty try hard and too hip. It's also really patronising and too comics focused. I'm looking for a good book on zine making and the zine scene for my 73yr old dad who wants to make a simple zine of his poetry, this isn't it.

I made my first zine a couple weeks ago and realized that if I wanted to make any more zines (which I do!) it would probably be a good idea to read up on how to do it! This book was a great introduction, full of useful tips and inspiring ideas. I loved the overall feel of the book and the different styles of each contributor. I am excited to make some more zines!

Has some interesting ideas, but is mainly geared to starting zinesters and some of the content is dated.
