This is the only book I've liked but wished was never written because the movie adaptation of it was so harmful to race relations and feminism in the US. I found the book to be both an excellent story of a flawed main character and an eye opening look at racism and sexism in the Antebellum South. Unfortunately I've met a lot of people who saw the movie and it creates a nostalgia trigger for them for a fictional South that needs to stay dead and gone.
