I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one at first because it just reminded me so much of Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera that I read this summer that I couldn’t feel invested. But by the midway point I was hooked and all of the ridiculous small town drama sunk its claws into me. I had guessed a bunch of the major reveals but that didn’t hinder me from enjoying bingeing this fast-paced thriller. My only complaint is that I wish there had actually been podcast elements in this book, considering that one of the main characters is a podcaster!

Mystery thriller centred on returning home 20-something years after the fact. Plenty of decent tropes. Mixed bag of plot twists. Pacing was better from the second half of the book but overall fun read.

I think the twistiest part for me was finding out that Ethan was Stahl’s son, that part caught me off guard and had me glued for a few chapters. Otherwise there were so many storylines to follow I was having a hard time piecing together the plot points. Some characters, like Mitch, I feel were so pointless to include in the story.

I did not find the characters likeable, but I don't think they're supposed to be. They're broken, they're not supposed to be perfect likeable individuals.
I liked the plot, but I kept trying to figure out why it sounded familiar

I removed a .25 star because I don't have great feelings about the author not saying she was inspired by an event that took place. There were times that I was like "how is there still 100 pages left" "how are there still 3 hours remaining", etc. so it did run a bit long, but I finished it in two days, devoured it.
