Ein toller Auftakt für diese Buchreihe. Das Buch erfüllt zwar viele Romance- und Fantasy-Klischees, aber ist dabei originell genug, dass es nicht übermäßig stört. Das Pacing war in der ersten Hälfte der Story etwas sehr langsam und es gab sehr viel World Building, worunter die Spannungskurve teilweise sehr gelitten hat. Wo es am Anfang nur schleppend voran ging, war das letzte Viertel des Buches doch etwas zu schnell für mich.
Der Anfang der Story war dafür sehr wirr und weit hergeholt, und sticht für mich in der Gesamtheit doch negativ heraus.
Marah lässt den Charakteren viel Zeit, sich auszubilden, sodass man die allermeisten wirklich ins Herz schließt. Auch, wenn viele Teile der Story doch vorhersehbar waren, habe ich es sehr genossen und das Buch ab der 2.Hälfte verschlungen. Es macht Lust auf mehr!

Some of the characters are lovable - not all of them and I wouldn't really count the main character as lovable.
The character I found really lovable has died (😭), however there are some pretty lovable characters.
It's a pretty slow story most of the time and the main character is sometimes a bit naive.
What I really didn't like were the intimate moments between the main character and Nikolai. They just came out of nowhere and I felt kinda uncomfortable reading it - I mostly skipped. I think the book could have gone without these scenes without a problem.
However all in all I liked the book and rated it 4-4.25.
