I thought we agreed enough with the fucking HP references in recently published books?!

The dialogue is so cringey and unnatural, honestly I think McKinty has never interacted with a Gen Z person.

Weird description of a 14 YEAR OLD GIRL “she’s really starting to grow out…could be mistaken for 16 even” WTF

These kids are absolute brats, Tom is an entitled white man, and Heather is meh-Characters are just one dimensional

Who the fuck goes to a private island where they even state “no laws there” LIKE I WOULD BE ON DRUGS TO AGREE TO THAT AFTER HEARING HOW THE MEN TALKED ABOUT IT

We killed someone, let’s leave the island…def Americans with how entitled they act when visiting other places (I say this as an American)

This book was an absolute rideeee! the plot itself was so original and well done and reminded me of the show "The Yellowjackets" with the whole "stranded survival" trope. My only issue with this book would be the ending as I expected more of a "bang" and fight, but it was still good. Heather's an amazing protagonist and the antagonist's (especially Matt) are also very well written. Some of the occurrences were a bit outlandish, but this is one of those books that would be rightfully done on the screen and as a show/movie adaptation. Popcorn thriller for sure!

This book is SO good I could not put it down. I had a tough time deciding between it being character or plot-driven because the plot of this book is so straightforward, driving, and easy to feel and understand but ultimately the characters' growth describes their choices and makes me feel tense. We begin with a seemingly normal and very realistic family that ends up in a very 0-100 tense situation and the terror is real. The way that Tom's true character comes to fruition lines up with how Heather would experience finding out who he truly is. The book's resolution is extremely satisfying and every character arc feels real. I love the potential super-naturalness that occurs from the islander's perspective, viewing Heather as a sort of Karma for their past sins. Excellent book; would read again.

This book was fantastic. I had no idea what it was about going in, and was quickly intrigued. I found it to be pretty fast paced. I grew to like the characters. The only things keeping me from rating this 5 stars is that I often found myself thinking "how would they know that?" or "Yeah right". If the characters' backgrounds were built out a bit more, I might feel differently but overall I appreciated that it ramped up quickly.
