Several fairy tales told as one continuous backward tale. Goldilocks, Jack of Beanstalk fame, Jack and Jill, the Frog Prince, Cinderella, and the Gingerbread Boy. Connections between the tales seem natural, even with the creation of family relationships.

This was such a fun and clever book! I can imagine using this with students and encouraging them to write their own "Previously" story, connecting one story to another. Reading this aloud to students, you could ask them to guess which story is up next. The writing is very humorous (some of it more understandable to adults).

My daughter enjoyed the book, but uh, it had me there for a min because one of the pages started out with “Cinderella was running through the woods all hot and bothered” or something along those lines.. and I asked myself what book was I reading again?

What happened before Goldilocks went to the bear’s house? How was that related to Jack? Did you know Jack in the beanstalk is the same Jack as in “Jack and Jill”? What happened to the frog when he was a prince? Did you know Cinderella knew the Gingerbread Boy? This story looks at the relationship between different fairy tales and imagines what happened “previously”.

I know I have said it before…I love alternate versions of fairy tales and this is no exception. I like how the author ties various tales together and how he works backwards. What a fun book!

Great little book for my library lesson about characters and story development. Nicely weaves fairy tale characters in a "rewind " of the story.

This is a picture book that uses well-known fairy tales to help kids understand the concept of the word "previously." The characters are all cleverly linked together to help the story flow smoothly. In addition to learning a new word, the kids can have fun guessing what is going to happen next; or rather, what had happened "previously."

Great idea, weak execution. The writing felt stilted - this would be a very difficult read-aloud.

Previously describes classic fairy tales in reverse, linking each one to the next. This tangled web of stories may be confusing for younger audiences, though older ones who have familiarity with the original tales will enjoy identifying the ones they know. While it has a clever concept, Previously does not quite reach its potential. Illustrations by Bruce Ingram display a childish style that seems rather flat and messy -- no doubt this is by design, but it was not in my taste.
