I've never been the biggest fan of romance novels, but I love retellings of classics. The first novel was enticing, but this one fell short. The plot moved slowly and the necessary plot points happened too conveniently for my liking. And than there was Liza.
Liza is such an unlikeable character. Her behavior was so unrealistic that I had to skim through a lot of her narratives. We're expected to believe that she was smart enough to defy her father so expertly, while maintaining his belief she was under his control, without any previous indication of her intelligence. I do not believe that a girl like Liza could do the majority of the things she did in this novel. And the sudden, unnecessary, incest plot took this story just a little too far for me.
