Over the past year, I've been reading a lot of contemporary speculative and weird poetry, primarily discovering writers in the pages of S.T. Joshi's excellent journal Spectral Realms. Steven Withrow has been published in those pages, and that appearance led me to this collection.

And I'm glad I found it, since alongside the work of Wade German, Withrow is one of the most talented poets working in the field today. The poems in this collection go well beyond the weird category, and pieces like "Ant Approaching a Puddle" have a light touch that goes down easy. My favorite piece in this collection is probably "The Chimes of Pallor City" which combines mystery with musical language in a perfect combination.

Overall, a great collection and a welcome discovery!
