This book was very well done. I wouldn't say it's entertaining in the same sense as catch22 and other war novels from this time period, but it is definitely well done. This book was very real, bleak, honest, and sad. But it's done respectfully towards the German faction of the war which is very rare to find in books from either WWI or WWII. Easily 4/5 from me!

One of my favorite books of all time. I fear if I start writing this review in further depth, I will never stop.
A horror story, a haunting tale. A poetic display of love, loss, and the meaning of life. An understanding of the despicable nature of war in a way I have never experienced in another novel since.
