This was not what I was expecting at all and, at first, I didn’t like it. It took forever to get into it. This is not the dark vampire book that the first one was—this is way more classic YA fantasy.

With all of that being said….I still really liked it!! Renee Ahdieh’s books have the romance and drama that I love from a ya fantasy/paranormal! Can’t wait for book 4!

3,5* rounded to 4
This is not the best book in this series and I felt a bit confused at the beginning as it took me a bit to catch up with the plot and the characters.
It's slow burning and sometimes even a bit too slow. Characters and world building are as fascinating as usual but the storytelling was a bit off.
I want to know what will happen but I wasn't a fan of this book.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Initial Thoughts
So I dove head first into this series thinking it was a duology was pleasantly surprised to learn that it’s actually a quartet! Anyway, after the ending of THE DAMNED, I needed this book!

Some Things I Liked
Be still my little half Indian heart I loved Arjun Desai so much. His stories of his childhood in Bombay, the scene where he made a paratha for Pippa, everything about him. He’s my new book boyfriend. Even his identity struggle as an ethereal, half-fey, spoke to me. I just resonated so strongly with his character and I loved it.
Pippa. Didn’t love her in the first two books but I was absolutely won over here. I love it when authors can take kinda bleh characters and turn them into characters I can’t live without.
The plot twists. I am so here for the drama, deception, and twists that this series is giving me.

Series Value
It goes without saying, I am going to keep reading. This series is easily my favorite Renée Ahdieh series yet.

Final Thoughts
Don’t sit on this series. Read it. Obsess over it with me. Remember that I have dibs on Arjun

I don’t know what kind of crack Renee Ahdieh puts into her writing but have never been more obsessed with a writing style. I was hooked by every sentence. The end floored me (tbh I’m not quite sure how she’s going to pull that plot twist off, but I will pay money to see her try). Every single time her books floor me. I would die for these characters as well as the woman who writes them. That is all.
