This book had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t sleep after reading it. Definitely not for the light of heart and you should check the trigger warnings. I loved it so much, but I don’t know if I’ll be rereading it soon because it was not a light read in terms of content.

I didn’t take the reviews seriously enough when they called this book heartbreaking. 
It felt like my soul was being crunched up like gravel as the ending drew closer.

This was such a frustrating read. And it’s done on purpose to make you feel frustrated and helpless because it’s just so enraging that no one seems to care that this child has just vanished. 

The way the story is told by changing between past and present was a nice touch, made more so once the big reveal happened.

Jackson writes characters that stick with you. I felt emotionally attached to Claudia, a middle schooler, who lost her best friend. As with any child she begins trying to find her, and a story of child abuse, child neglect, and mental illness ensues. Such a powerful, but triggering book.
