I forced myself to get to 65% before I had to give up and now I feel like a weight has been lifted.

I only persevered because it was one of my suggestions for book club.

Cool concept, cool name and a cool cover but that's it .

There was no stakes, the characters were skeletal in development and I just couldn't care less. The writing was unnecessarily descriptive.

This nearly me into a reading slump.

I should have DNF’d it but I was listening to it at work and it was monotone enough that I pretty much zoned out.
It was a fun premise and the reviews are stellar but it was not what I expected and it really changes so many times throughout the book on what it was - a manual, diaries, just following the characters and back to a manual - it seems to be it was a failed concept.
There was also zero investment in the characters. It was a lot of being told what’s happening around them. It felt like a very masculine book the way it was written. It was weird. I didn’t like the book but I finished it so 2 stars.
