This is 100% on me but I hate thrillers. Reading this for a challenge and just yeah, this wasn't what I wanted to read while feeling poorly and being on call for work.

Can't even review this book properly because I don't know what to say. Thrillers are never my thing I find them too negative and as I hate horrors I can't really imagine going out of my way to be scared and that goes for books as well as films.

A reasonable solid child snatch story with a lot of twists and turns that keeps you guessing right to the end. Unfortunately, I really never got into the DI Patrick Lennon and DS Carmella Maisiello combo. He was fairly uninteresting and she was quite forgettable. As 'procedurals' have such a tight structure, the interplay between the two central detectives is an important aspect for me, and I found it lacking in this book.

This is a police procedural set in England. The main protagonist, Detective Inspector Lennon, is a single father living with his parents, trying to take the best care of his daughter that he can, when he is assigned a case regarding several missing children. As he works the case, each missing child reminds him of his own daughter and his traumatic past, and it is hard for him to keep his professional distance. Several times he finds himself becoming emotional because he is unable to keep his own daughter out of his mind.

I thought this book was excellent, one of the best of its type that I've read.

The character development was great, and the story was very suspenseful. The next book in this series ("Blissfully Dead") is due out the end of September.

I received this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Fantastic read!

Two toddlers have been abducted - one was taken from her own home in broad daylight and the other was taken from a car in a supermarket car park while his mum popped in to collect her dry cleaning. DI Patrick Lennon is the lead detective on the case. Now a third chid has been taken. Frankie Phillips was being babysat by her 15 year old half sister Alice while her parents went out for a meal. There are no leads to why these three children have been taken and then a body is found. A fantastic read from page one.
