Loved it!

I really enjoyed the group of misfit friends banding together to support one another and, of course, the passionate love born out of crisis and a shared mission.
It's really an awesome book & my review isn't doing it justice. Hopefully my 5 stars help to get the point across better than my words are right now.

This book is aptly titled; obsession is the major theme and motivator of this fifth installment of Rose and Savino’s Alpha shifters series. I love the similarities in the characters of Sam and Layne. Both keep themselves apart from the world; both have been damaged by what happened to their parents and the resulting actions from that; both are seeking to achieve something in the time they have in their lives.

But what they’re each searching to achieve is radically different, and watching those seemingly disparate actions come together over the course of this book is what makes it compulsively readable. Layne and Sam each have a journey to make, and through that journey they discover their inner strengths and abilities.

One of my favorite aspects of this book is that Sam is decidedly not an alpha in the wolf-pack hierarchy. His damage is such that he neither desires nor is capable of a leadership role. He’s a classic lone wolf at the start of this book, and his move towards companionship and a desire to be with others is one of the most enjoyable aspects of Alpha’s Obsession. And in romance, you read book after book about alphas, or maybe betas. Just reading about a regular member of the pack was a refreshing aspect to this book in the Alpha shifter series.

Layne is a nerd through and through, and I adored that part of her. And yet she still yearned to enjoy simple experiences, and her joy in those radiated to Sam and helped make her a worthy partner for him.

There’s also a great extension of the overarching story of this series. While some threads end, there are new opportunities and new characters to explore, and it shows great growth in the series overall.

My quibbles with this book are very minor (I still wonder where a few of those condoms came from, but seeing the practice of safe sex in this book was a decided plus). This is an excellent entry in a continuingly awesome series.

4.5 stars.

Often with a long series, the stories and characters can start to feel a bit repetitive. Not the case with Bad Boy Alphas (so far, I'm reading in order), as each book has a slightly different tone.

I really enjoyed this story about Sam and Layne. They are brought together when Sam breaks into the Layne's lab and ends up kidnapping her, on a quest for revenge to destroy an evil organization that is experimenting on shifters. Layne thinks she's analyzing the data to find a cure for the disease that killed her mom. Both are damaged and each have compelling reasons to think that they cannot have a long-term relationship - so the story has a combo of action vibes with pangs of angst, plus quite bit of steam.

The writing was great - I was really invested in the story and the characters.

Good story

A little annoyed that the stories keep finishing at like 86% of the book, but a good story anyways. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one!

I've read the last two 'Alpha's' books and adore the mix of steam, action and intrigue that can be found in them. The plot twists and turns kept me hooked from beginning to end. In fact I was both surprised and saddened to reach the end - I loved reading about Sam and Layne.

Sam is a bad-ass but had such a vulnerable side to him that I just wanted to wrap him in a hug and not let go. He might not be an alpha but he was plenty hot and dominant enough for me. Layne is a super hot nerd-girl, battling to make life better for others. This has led her to some very naive decisions and put her life at risk.

There is just something magical that happens when these two authors combine their writing talents. Though they are not rom-coms the end result is a witty and fun read, with plenty of steamy bedroom/bathroom/hallway action and a cracking good story to boot. I was totally swept up in Layne and Sam's story, enjoyed every page of the book and can't wait for the next one.

 CW: violence, gun violence, kidnapping

I rolled into this one from the previous book. I liked Sam and Layne. Once again, the fated mates carried quite a bit, but that's okay. It did the job it needed. This was just the read I was looking for.
