Another beautiful adaptation of a many-layered, long tale of love, loss, dreams, and revolution. I only got to know the story through the 2012 movie adaptation of the musical, but loved the story ever since. To see it in some more details and these intriguing pictures was a joy. Now, I’m more tempted to read the original book by Victor Hugo more than ever.

I’ve never been a fan of les mis but I wanted to see if a different style of adaptation would be more to my liking and surprisingly yes! The drawing style was beautiful and classic. They portrayed the clothing and time period well. All in all, an enjoyable way to revisit a classic.

About :
There are several plotlines going on in this book .One if of an ex convict Jean Valjean who when shown an act of kindness turns into a better man and ends up taking care of an orphan Cosette . We go through their journey full of struggles and sadness .

Why should you read it ?
* This manga was so easy to read .We all know classics can be intimidating to read due to their language and they are usually very long but this was easy .
* There is a certain simplicity with classics that is comforting .
* Seeing the hardships they face and  them finally getting to be happy brings so much joy .

My review(spoilers) :
I liked it but it felt too repetitive at times .Their misery had no end .Bad things kept happening to them and the death of Valjean at the end was so sad . Mainly I just liked it because the art was so good .

I received the ebook in exchange for an honest review on netgalley

I always found Les Misérables a difficult and rather complex story. The manga helped me revisit some of the holes in my memory. This felt great!

I gave this four because I think it delivers for an audience who wants to get a taste of Les Mis without committing to the novel. I don't recommend this for readers who don't enjoy manga or an even more condensed version than the musical.

I normally don't read classics (too boring), but I love manga, so I just had to try this one out. Thanks Netgalley for giving me this book in exchange for a review. :)

Let's just say one thing, it was still boring (story wise). I know I will never read the original.
I love the fact they made a manga out of this one, I can say it improves it by a lot. Instead of boring descriptions about characters or parts of the story, you can now see them, see them grow up, see how they look and see the story unfold.

Cosette was a wonderful character. Poor girl, having to go through so much in her youth, I think she deserved the happiness she gets in the end. It was really fun to see her grow up. From little happy girl, to unhappy and back to a very happy teenager. I really loved how she was drawn. So cute!

Jean Valjean was an interesting character, but I felt sorry for him. Being so hunted, always having to watch out. It was also a part that annoyed me. Come on people, don't you guys have something better to do then to hunt some "criminal"? I mean seriously, I am sure there are bigger criminals or bigger crimes to solve or fix. It came over also as unbelievable.

Marius was a really fun character, though his love made him blind, and he was very rude to that other girl. I wish he could at least have seen it and just said something or done something.

All in all, a really interesting adaptation of a novel. Yeah for manga! And I will be sure to check the other Manga Classics.

This is a really good adaptation! I liked the way it felt like a step up from the musical/movie; there was a bit more detail and character backstories, but not as overwhelming as the full novel.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I loved this book. The artwork is beautiful and the manga itself does a fabulous job of portraying victor Hugo's classic.
