Wow - if this isn’t nice, what is.

Absolutely brilliant wisdom given to college graduates but worth even more in today’s times (2018) Vonnegut was wise beyond his books he was a real inspiration and role model. To see him referenced in modern literature like Ready Player One shows his great influences.

This book Is brilliant and I think I’ll re-listen/read it many times. His advice is strong, his thought out speeches would definitely motivate most and his out the box views are infectious.

If you cannot find yourself to live Vonnegut after hearing this well - so it goes.

Few nice ideas, some parts simply confused me. Also, was Vonnegut a raging homophobe or trailblazer for lgbtq community. I need answers.

A compact collection of Vonnegut's speeches (mainly commencements), full of his humour and wisdom. Listening to this makes me remember what a loss his passing was. The only thing that would have made the book better was if the man himself had been narrating it. But they did a good job with the actor they got. If you are a fan of Vonnegut or just looking for a compact edition of some funny yet erudite observations then this is worth picking up.

My Audible clean out continued with this little number. I have to shamefully admit I didn’t get to read any of Vonnegut’s works till now, and this was probably not the best place to start, but I had it and it was short enough to tackle quickly, so, here’s that.

Vonnegut was invited to speak at various university ceremonies over the years, and this is a collection of some of those speeches. Quite inspiring, actually, I imagine this would make a great gift for a high schooler taking their fist steps into adulthood. Or for an adult who got a bit lost in everyday pains and needs a bit of an inspiration and direction. Either way, quite nice.

I really liked this book. As a religious conservative, I wondered how much I'd be able to appreciate Vonnegut's perspectives on life, and there were a few sections where I rolled my eyes at his characterization of conservatives, though his treatment of religious people was always respectful. However, despite the differences in our politics and religion, I really enjoyed his thoughts on community, marriage, history, and education. It made me want to explore his body of work more deeply.

The speeches are short, pithy, and generally uplifting. Great to listen to while cleaning, driving, or exercising.

By its nature - a collection of and amalgamation of commencement speeches--a little repetitive but a joyous, funny heartfelt and eminently quotable collection.
