Another winner in this highly enjoyable series. Kai was a cutie pie and I loved to see Marcus melt for him. Now I'll have to wait six weeks for Corbin and Spencer's story!

Straight away we can feel the pull between Kai and Marcus. Marcus is affected by Kai and that isn't something he has ever had happen to him. He likes control and order; everything Kai isn't. This book is like reading fore play on loop, the two of them are inevitably going to pounce on each other, but the build up is pressure cooker hot.  This is a massive step for Marcus and we get given insights of how Marcus is different with Kai from comments his friends make.
I fell in love with both of these guys, Marcus is in control and stable and has a beautiful soul but he has deep insecurities that seem transparent to Kai. Kai is Mr Sunshine but with huge depth too. These two are so intense that I'm sure the pages vibrated, their intimate scenes were really steamy and Marcus claimed his 'baby boy' even whilst he was working the bar. Marcus is an intense character, his shoulders probably reach his ears from all of the stress he puts on himself. Kai is beguiling and works magic on Marcus and distracts him from himself. This story is like watching the inevitable happen but it takes Marcus a bit of time and self reflection to realise that he is capable of loving someone and worth being loved. I loved this series, but Marcus was definitely unexpected. Previously, we only had a glimpse of him with his friends, often when they were in their own crisis, but I am so glad we got his story and saw the real 'him'. I cannot wait for Corbin to get his HEA, I have a feeling 'The Charmer' may need to up his game. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Book 3 in the Vers Podcast series gives us Marcus' story aka the self proclaimed Realist of the group. I do have to say that the name his bestie Corbin has for him might fit him even better because Marcus is most definitely also The Daddy of the group (and I am not talking about in the bedroom). I'm talking about Marcus' bone deep need to be a caretaker. To feel needed in some way. It's something he lacked in his life growing up and since forming a bond with his 3 closest friends something he gets.

"They had never let me down. I never doubted what I meant to them. And on top of that, they made me feel needed. Like I was important to them, like their lives wouldn't be the same without me, and though I'd never told them, I needed that."

Their group friendship is certainly unique, but even more so between Marcus and Corbin. It delighted me to finally get a bit of insight into their close bond. And I adored how much Kai didn't bat an eye one bit. He respected it and even loved Marcus a little more for it. These two were such idiots. They fought it every step of the way, even while everyone around them who had a set of eyes could see they were perfect for each other.

"You know this is a fucking disaster waiting to happen, right?"

"So Romantic."

"That's why I'm The Realist."

Oh Marcus. I loved how big that mans heart was. It was a joy watching him slowly open it to Kai. Kai was just as scared, but for different reasons. He owned a heart of gold as well. Not to mention these two were hot AF together.

DNF @ 64%.

Sweet, funny but not for me. I didn't connect with Marcus or Kai, I didn't feel their chemistry, their banter or their back and forth. So since I felt no motivation in continuing, I'm leaving it there.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Marcus and Kai! What a hot flirty combination! I swear i about melted when Marcus called Kai ..... (dont wanna spoil it)

Marcus is like a marshmallow ...tough and crusty on the outside but sweet and gooey when you get inside his walls

Kai was just his flirty self, a bit clueless but sweet af.

Even though this was a story where you knew what was gonna happen it was well written and an enjoyable read.

Kai is a sassy guy who we met in previous books, he works behind the bar. I loved his personality and out-and-proud loud vibe. Roomates to lovers scenario, solid read.

A POC romance masterpiece

What I love most about this book is that keeping it real extends not only to Marcus as a character but to the story as a whole. There are some amazingly honest and real moments in this book that you don’t often see discussed in the MM genre - they’re often glossed over, or omitted entirely. It’s also so wonderful to read a book where both main characters are POC.

Thank you Riley for another wonderful book!

While Marcus styles himself the Realist of the Vers group, he really is the caretaker and parent figure of the friend circle... he's also the one whose house they've always gathered at, the one who edits the podcast, the one who tries to stay on top of everything... the Daddy... but he's also afraid of getting close to more people, especially Kai, because his own situation with his parents was didn't teach him about love...

Kai is an absolute sweetheart and oh so trusting, and also has self esteem issues... the pair of them circle each other - Kai as the one who puts himself out there tho... and while it's a slow climb, the summit is worth it - and seriously steamy!

I absolutely love these two together and yet, they make the reader work to get to their HEA...

Once again, Riley Hart drops just enough breadcrumbs to make me anxious to read the fourth and final book in the series to get Corbin's HEA, which I think will again be a slow and frustrating trip, but oh so worth it.

While this book could be read standalone, I think it's best enjoyed as the third book in the Vers Podcast series and you'll enjoy it more and get the jokes if you have the background from the previous two books
