Emily ripped off a movement started by a Black Woman (Tarana Burke) when she could have been actually creative if she really needed a hashtag and book title.

Some decent information for young adults but nothing relevant for me or worthy enough to recommend unless you are JUST coming out of the purity movement and feeling alone.

I can’t believe I’ve never read a book that systematically explains why purity culture is Bad and the implications it holds for all people who are raised in it and continue to teach it, but I’m so glad this book exists to do that work. I love so many things about this book (and the friend who wrote it

I think I highlighted half this book.

This was written by the person who started the #ChurchToo hashtag. So much important information on the Christian culture that perpetuates and covers up abuse.

The author did an excellent job drawing a line from purity culture to the reality of #ChurchToo. Tough read at times but we have to acknowledge this reality in order to do something about it.

Words I needed to help me understand the untruths I am grappling with about what parts of myself are worth loving. I grew up in the fringes of purity culture and am so so so tired of feeling shame. #ChurchToo gives me hope I can begin to relearn what is really right for me and reach for what I want - without the shame

The church has lost its way. This book did an excellent job of using data and personal stories to draw a direct line from purity culture to abuse. To put a finer point on it, purity culture is abuse.
