While this book was a very disturbing look at violent, inner-city youth, it was also heart-warming and compelling. It was a little minimalist for me - I'd like to know more about the family and their backstory - but still an excellent book.

In thinking about things for kids to read - there's a LOT of bad language, a LOT of violence, and an unpleasant look at the inside of juvenile justice system......but not overwhelming detail that pervades the senses.
