Devoured this. This 2012 memoir has inspired me to read her fiction! "Why be happy when you could be normal?" was the sentence Jeanette got from her hateful evangelical mother when Jeanette came out. The first half of the book chronicles her difficult childhood in this loveless home, the second half takes us through her processing of the effects it had on her adulthood. It's triggering in quite a few ways so make sure you look those up. Four and a half taters πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ /πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”

This was just ok to me. Jeanette’s sorry is incredible and interesting but I found her method of storytelling hard to follow.
