Im really liking the investigative formatting of this one, and the slow reveal of the depravity of the world thats created. Its interesting to see the expansion of the cast, while able to still catch up with old friends! (And its so cool to note that Akeha went back to they/them pronouns!)

Firstly, I really dislike this form of narration. Secondly, this wasn't a good option for listening as an audio book. A few places had weird redacted information and bullet points that made listening difficult. The story was interesting, even if the telling of it was very frustrating.

Yang continues to write gripping and intensely curious stories. However this volume just didn't quite pack the same emotional punch as the previous ones. At times it became increasingly repetitive (the atrocious horrors of the facilities felt like I just kept re-reading ad nauseum), and the emotionality that I loved in the previous two volumes didn't land as successfully here. The world building continues and was impressive as always, but this felt like it was missing something.

The best entry in the Tensorate collection, and while it could be read as a stand alone horror novel in-line with VanderMeer's Annihilation, the knowledge of who Rider and Akeha are from the first 2 novellas in the series strengthened my interest.
