Too teen angsty for me. I probably would have liked this when I was younger. I’m glad Halley came to her senses at the end!

Beautiful story about friendship. It shows how true friends are there for one another and what they do for each other. It made me cry at the end. Wonderfully written.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. The writing feels very timeless. Other than a few instances where I was reminded that cell phones didn't exist yet, it really wasn't noticeable that this book is older than I am. The story was quite different from what I expected. The synopsis made me think this book would center around Halley and Scarlett's friendship, but it ended up focusing way more on Halley's relationship with her mother and with Macon. While I did enjoy the book overall, it felt more like the plot of a lifetime movie meant to teach teens morals than a book that was actually written for teens to relate to.

The book was a somewhat heavy read, from the start when she received the news of her schoolmate passing away, to her comforting her grieving friend, to her growing problems between her mum and her, and her experiencing her first and fast paced romance.

It was almost dragging. A medium sized book could've taken me a shorter time to read but I couldn't connect to any of the characters and I was just waiting for things to turn around. Not one of the best YA books I've read so far.

A quick, easy beach read! Portrays the teenage years accurately, and doesn’t glamorize teen pregnancy!

4 stars!

I remember back then when Sarah Dessen was so popular that literally everyone was reading her books. I kind of understand the hype now.

You will like this book if you like;

1. Coming of age story (The story is about the main character growing out of her shell to become her own self and learning from her mistakes. I don't usually like reading about teens misbehaving, especially when writers depict smoking, drinking, having sexual relations and doing drugs as something the 'cool' kids do, when in reality, they are not. But this was done quite well, in my opinion. Stop glamourising bad behaviours, I'd say!)
2. Storirs about teen pregnancy (To be honest, it's more coming-of-age rather than a teen pregnancy story. I was expecting the main character to be really, really involved in her best friend's pregnancy but we usually got only snippets of her involvement.)

Finding this book in a Big Bad Wolf Book Sale for only RM3 was definitely a good find!
