Fairly standard story, though at times feels a bit inconsistent as how the creature can attack four men armed with big guns but hides from a sheriff with a small pistol.

A fun creature feature set in a small town in Louisiana.  The imagery is excellent, and I really felt like I was watching a film. The deputy and the sheriff took next to no convincing to go look for the monster, though. The timeline for relationships pre-book is a little odd. It's never stated when the book takes place, so I assume when it was published, 2015. Allegedly the sheriff and the restaurant owner are 39, but were both born in '64-'65. There are also a few words that have gotten mixed up, such as "wretch" instead of "retch," and "proportioned" instead of "portioned." The sentence structure is choppy at times, and I did find myself frequently mentally editing the sentence structure and grammar. Beyond that, it is an entertaining book.

Legendary creature wreaks havoc upon a small town in Louisiana. Good story. Easy to read. Decent character development. Excellent writing. Entertaining. Somewhat predictable. Would make for a great TV series. Will continue to read more in the John Decker series. Highly recommend.

Not for me, too easy to read not enough depth enjoyed the monster threat could have done without the teenagers. DNF
