This book was one of the first to accompany me on my road to becoming a libertarian. It's an excellent deconstruction of various paternalistic fallacies from an economic perspective, amazing for its powerful rhetoric rivaled only by [b:Common Sense|161744|Common Sense|Thomas Paine|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1309209451s/161744.jpg|2548496], and [a:Murray Rothbard|46810|Murray N. Rothbard|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1215371480p2/46810.jpg] in his best times, as well as for the fact that it has aged so incredibly well. In our age of blind interventionism combined with widespread ignorance on economic matters (and not just among the public), this book is as relevant as ever.
Fun little fact: [a:Rothbard|46810|Murray N. Rothbard|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1215371480p2/46810.jpg] didn't like this book, deriding it as rather empty rhetoric. He preferred [a:de Molinaris|1026184|Gustave de Molinari|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1371382555p2/1026184.jpg] [b:The Production of Security|7090716|The Production of Security|Gustave de Molinari|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1265813656s/7090716.jpg|7346877], and while I can see where he's coming from, I don't share his judgement.

The author posits some interesting ideas regarding human liberty but the book is too short for any form of detailed discussion.
there are nuances to this topic that were never touched upon
However, it does a good job as a short introduction to the topic and is useful to start the conversation.
I would like to come back to this text in a few years once I am more well versed in the notions of liberalism and socialism to reconsider my position and make definite conclusions.

With my intellectual scope stronger now than when I first read The Law in the 90s, I even better appreciate this great classical manifesto of liberty.

Wise, eloquent, insightful, and valuable. A must-read that's easy to digest and important for all.
