This is one of the best short books I’ve read. It is well written and the prose is amazing. The world building of this book feels like a Ghibli animation. The story is magical while some aspects are dark but the ending is very much heartwarming.

The way Neil Gaiman captures my imagination and makes me feel like a child again, every time I read one of his books, is simply incredible. This one, about childhood memories, struck a personal chord.

Throughout most of the reading experience, I considered this to be only a four-star journey. Too loose. Abstract for the sake of abstract. However, upon reaching the ending, I found it tied up the story perfectly, like brown paper and string. While I'm not trying to indicate that the end was cut and dry in any way but rather it provided the necessary point of reference for the narrative.

Beautifully woven imagery with a straightforward narrator made this book an exquisite tapestry which was a delight to unravel.

Wholeheartedly and truly a five star read for me. While jumping between time periods in narration was a little confusing, the sheer brilliance of this tale with a moral allowed me to forgive any small issue. Please do yourself a favor and read this story at once.

Excellent writing, but I honestly just wasn't that interested in the story line or the characters.
