The beginning was a struggle… a poor imitation of Flavia deLuce. The “adult” Betty is written more interestingly;however, it’s too long and there’s too much disdain for every character who isn’t her.

This is less a mystery and more an uncovering of corruption and vice and the meaninglessness of suffering.

I've listened to all of the Betty Church books and found them all very enjoyable.

I enjoy Kasasian's gentle humour and his penchant for populating his books with quirky supporting characters. He is also a very sympathetic writer of strong female characters. All in all a great read.

I did enjoy this book but it can be very slow and felt drawn out at times. I also didn’t like how a lot of loose ends weren’t tied up at the end. There were a lot of characters presented that had great back or side stories and I wish those had resolved at the conclusion.

I would place this 3rd Betty Church mystery in 2nd place. The characters are not quite as teeth-grindingly annoying and I loved the bit where Sidney Grice makes an appearance and puts Betty's parents down. However, the mystery itself was a bit too convoluted.

Betty Church is back and I found this story as enjoyable as usual.
I struggled a bit in the first part that I found slow but I throughly enjoyed the second part that is excellent.
A well thought cast of characters, a vivid and realistic historical background, a solid mystery and a lot of humour.
This series is a favorite and I recommend it.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
