This series won’t be for everyone. It’s rather slow, there’s heaps of kind of weird magic, some subplots are a bit drawn out. I won’t deny any of that. But what I will say is the magic of this story swept me away and left me feeling hopeful and rather misty-eyed.

Anyway.

Solidly believing that Rebecca Ross knows how to craft a story and build a world teeming with unique life and a whole lot of heart. Wowza.

Rebecca Ross is quickly becoming one of my new favorite writers. Her stories and worlds are enchanting, and so creative and different from other fantasy I’ve read before. The pace in this duology is definitely a bit on the slower side, but it’s that steady growth that I think makes it so powerful. There wasn’t a single plot closure I was I satisfied with.

I’m in love with the way she writes love. All of the relationships in this series show love in such different ways. These are not whirlwind romances. They are quiet, and steady, and preserving, and it’s incredibly beautiful to read.
